How to Replace an audi replacement car keys G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Ford-New.pngThe grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain. However the code will not be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two connector pins, and they serve different purposes but the most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms if the sensor is at full operation. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the 4th one was dry. When i crank the engine, there are no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each of the injector holes, the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th one stays shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got zero ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car key cover audi can start if the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is plugged in but it still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when unplugged, still shows temperatures of -49c. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've ruled everything else out. But i am afraid I might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. Test them out - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that must know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions about fuel injector timing etc. In order to do this it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you encounter a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause the engine shutting down.

Some of the signs of a failing G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal, and/or a misfire when you are in gear. If you have any of these problems, it is likely that your sensor is deteriorating and requires replacement. They're inexpensive and easy to locate especially in the case of an Bosch sensor like ours. Alternatively, GM's version of this part is a good option.

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be a cause for a slew of problems in your vehicle. It's an essential component of the audi a3 key's transmission as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU uses this signal to control fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. You can also verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. It should show approximately 1000 ohms resistance between these two points. This is the same across the audi keys car audi a1 key fob cover (Going In this article) 80-100-200-RS2 range, beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 DU You may also find good ones in wrecking yards.
